Earliest Encounter:

The earliest account of an electronic spirit was in June 1990, during the era of VHS recording. The account came from a woman named Kelsey Yates, whose son was hit by a speeding car while recording his first time riding a bike.

While the video remains lost, with only a single snapshot existing online, the disheartening account is enough to give a harrowing idea of what she saw:

"I remember that look on his face, that proud and gleeful smile of his as he looked at me as he rode his bike and said 'Mommy mommy! I'm doing it! I'm doing it!'... Then he was gone. He was gone. My baby boy was killed in front of me."

A month after her son's funeral, Yates said her television began to act up. The anomalies included the TV displaying a frame of her son's smiling face, replaying his final words, or text popping up on screen, which Yates described as her son talking to her through the TV.

“The television screen was just… black. Just black. Nothing else. Then I saw the words pop up on screen: ‘I LOVE YOU, MOMMY’. I didn’t believe it at first, then again, repeated the same phrase. I knew then that my boy wanted to say one last goodbye to me.”

While some of these cases may be harmless and even heartwarming, others can be dark and disturbing, such as the following case.

The Internet Era:

In late 2003 to early 2004, rumors of a "demonic" virus infecting websites began spreading around message boards such as Something Awful, 4chan and NexBoard.

For a while, no proof has been documented outside of witness accounts and poor quality photos, until a few months ago. The most recent encounter with this specific variant was on YouTube with the user nana825763, who managed to capture a screen recording of the event up until his computer crashed.
